Well, today was my first day! Fewf, was it a long and tiring one. It started with breakfast and get-to-know-yous. All of the interns seem really cool and I know a couple of them from the Student Leader Forum I went to back in the Fall of ’11 for ConocoPhillips. So that was cool to already know a couple people going into the nerve-wrecking situation. Anywho, after that we went to get our laptops we will be using for the summer (HPs), and our badges. Once that was over we went to have lunch with our the mentors that will help us throughout the summer with anything we need help with or have questions on. After that was a bunch of orientation presentations over HR, payroll, and the assignment fair which takes place tomorrow that I will talk a little more about further down in this post. In the middle of all of these fun presentations, we took a tour of the fitness center, which seems awesome and will definitely be put to good use!
It was a busy day, not in the way of busy as in you are running around with your chicken cut off, but in a way that you have to absorb a lot of information in one day and learn a lot of do’s and dont’s, and things that most companies have to tell you. While taking breaks, waiting for others to finish the current task, or walking to and from places, it was awesome to chat with the fellow interns and get to know them a little better and just chill and be cool.
PSX (Phillips 66) has an awesome program for interns. Basically, we have been given a list of 13 possible job offerings. Tomorrow we will sit down with each supervisor from each job and chat with them to learn more about the job at hand. By the end of tomorrow, we are going to have 6 jobs we would love to work on for this summer, and then Thursday we will be given our job assignment based on many factors such as what jobs we are most interested in, what jobs seem like the best fit both for myself and the prospective supervisor, etc. It’s an awesome program and allows for each intern to most likely get his top one or two picks of what projects he or she wants to work on for the summer.
I am extremely excited about this summer and not only excited about what’s in store with PSX, but also what’s in store with the other interns and myself. It’s going to be a busy summer packed with not only work but lots of events to get to know each other and just hang out and make friends who are in the same boat as I am. I love making friends, and this will be a great opportunity to. Especially friends who share the same nerdy interests as I do and I can talk nerdy and not be given a bunch of blank stares back because they have no clue what is coming out of my mouth.
It’s also going to be a good summer for myself and my growth. I know for a fact that this internship will be an amazing one that leads to a lot of learning and experience that will be taking place. I am going to humble myself and have an open heart to everyone I cross paths with this summer and just absorb the knowledge that is and will be around me. Also, and I have kind of been begrudging the location of Bartesville, but I know that being here this summer instead of back home in Houston with my friends and family is not only where I know God wants me at this point in my life, but will be good for me to help find out more about myself and about God and who He is and what He’s going to do in my life this summer. I am super pumped and excited to hear God talk to me and help mold me into the man He wants me to be. I’m listening.
I hope everyone is doing well! I know lots of people are starting their internships or finishing up school, and I hope the best for everyone in their lives this summer!
